#ILCOACHSEARCH: Days 8 and 9

Well, well, well. And then there were just four potential coaches still dancing (dancing for real, anyway). And none of the major ones, really. Which is a long way of saying things are going to get interesting sooner rather than later. You can skip straight to the Dunzo List.

Johnny Dawkins is a new addition! I am not excited about it. The stain of the 2011-12 Pac-12 will not wash off easily.

Shaka Smart So VCU’s season is over and things have immediately ramped up. You have Joe Henricksen saying pretty firmly “no dice.” You’ve got Steve Lavin saying he’s the next coach on the air on TNT. Former Illini beat writer Marlen Garcia did a breakdown of his contract. I hope the small taste of “Tom Crean, Asshat” he got tonight left him wanting to try his hand at kicking the crap out of that guy for a few years. God, I hate Indiana. In all seriousness, though, that’d be a really weird thing for Steve Lavin to throw out there with nothing to back it up.

Chris Collins HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Anthony Grant looked like he was coaching a great game until the final :30 when he botched a timeout. Either way, I hope he goes home and realizes that his fanbase only actually cared about this season for the last three minutes of that Creighton game. He’d be such a solid freaking hire, I can’t stand that he’s mired in the basketball wasteland that is Alabama with a national title-caliber football team.
