Clear Eyes, Full Hearts

Texas Forever! Right? Right. This picture makes me happy:

I think apparel should play a more prominent role in MVP awards, don’t you? In fact, I think a belt buckle should’ve been included, since that’s what the Texas Bowl logo is, essentially.

I’ll be honest, it’d be easy to get hung up thinking about what might have been with this team – remember sitting at 5-3 with four completely winnable games to round out the schedule? – but at the start of the season I was not alone in expecting three wins. If you had told me in August “Illinois is gonna steamroll a BCS conference opponent in a bowl game,” I would stopped you with an uncomfortable embrace before you could finish that sentence with “that you didn’t know existed until this year.” I’ll take it. And Mikel Leshoure –kudos, sir. It’s been a privilege watching you run the football this season. #Feed5

Looking ahead to next year, this team could be pretty good (if there’s a lockout and nobody can get drafted – really good), and there’s a schedule that can set them up for some success:

Sept. 3 Arkansas State

Sept. 10 South Dakota State

Sept. 17 Arizona State

Sept. 24 Western Michigan

Oct. 1 Northwestern

Oct. 8 at Indiana

Oct. 15 Ohio State

Oct. 22 at Purdue

Oct. 29 at Penn State

Nov. 5 BYE

Nov. 12 Michigan

Nov. 19 Wisconsin

Nov. 26 at Minnesota

I’ve bolded the home games because WE FINALLY HAVE EIGHT OF THEM. Huzzah!
