…for doing the yeoman’s work of compiling this list of 32 of the greatest calls in sports history. It’s glorious.
I’ll admit, I enjoy the call of an incredible play as much, if not more, than the play itself (I definitely own this). It’s the soundtrack for how that play will be remembered forever. And what’s maybe best of all is that there are so many different ways for it to be great, whether it’s the Russ Thompson “Giants win the pennant!”-style freakout, the Bob Costas/Jim Nantz “A win for the ages!” contemplative approach, or the Jack Buck or Vin Scully who somehow combines them both and takes it up to a new level (Scully treats this list like his own personal lounge, by the way).
I’ll just link one here, one of my all-time favorites from Jack Buck. Sorry, Charlie Leibrandt.
