Is This Russia?

“This isn’t Russia.”

Right? I’m growing less sure sometimes. Last week, the Dept. of Health and Human Services sent a letter to the health insurance lobby to attempt to get insurers to stop blaming increased premiums on the health care legislation, ominously warning that there would be “zero tolerance for this type of misinformation and unjustified rate increases.” (Apparently, this warranted a press release.)

Um, what?

Setting aside for a second that the alleged “misinformation” is likely true (mostly based on that rogue economic notion that states “things cost money”), what’s in store for those with the audacity to disagree? The stocks? Tarring and feathering? Jokes aside, it’s startling to see a Cabinet member threatening Americans because of what they’re saying. If I were an insurance provider, this post would put me on the receiving end of whatever the consequences are.

I suppose when it comes to brazen abuses of power, the toothpaste is out of the tube already, since we’re apparently going full-speed ahead on assassinating citizens.

It’s from June, but this clip from “The Daily Show” is still firing on all cylinders. “What happened to Barry from the block?”

Quasi-related: I like Art Carden and he’s got a new column at Forbes.com.
